Murphy is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a Certified Financial Counselor, and a graduate of Northwestern University’s acclaimed National Graduate Trust School. He is also the former mayor of the city of Robinswood and coordinated the West End Louisville Economic Development Initiative. He has served on the boards of Bellarmine University, Norton Healthcare Finance Committee, The Louisville Orchestra, The Kentucky Opera, Louisville Visual Arts Association, Louisville Collegiate School, Kentucky Art and Craft Foundation, Cathedral of the Assumption Heritage Foundation, DePaul School, Frazier Rehab Hospital, St. Allen Award in recognition of his community leadership, has held a variety of community leadership positions. He served as chairman of the 2007 Fund for the Arts campaign and Chairman of the Board 2009- 2011. Navy from 1966- 1971, achieving the rank of Commander in the Reserves. Murphy’s Louisville career began in 1984 when he joined Citizens Fidelity Bank and Trust Company as Chief Investment Officer, and where he held other executive positions including Executive Vice President of Private Banking and Vice Chairman of PNC Investment Management and Research, culminating in his serving as Managing Executive of PNC Investment Advisory Company from which he took early retirement in December 1999. Murphy began his career with Paine, Webber, Jackson & Curtis, Inc., then joined Virginia National Bank and its successor, Sovran Bank as a trust and investment executive.
